Recipe: Catskill Mountain Mermaid Bath Salts
Apr 02, 2018Soothing and restorative bath salts that you can make by hand
Ingredients:
- 3 parts Epsom salts
- 1 part sea salt
- small handful of pink Himalayan salt
- Fresh pine needles stripped from the branch (we used Hemlock which grows everywhere up here)
- Dried pine needles
- Dulse seaweed (or other organic edible seaweed)
Directions:
You'll need a large bowl, food processor, muslin pouches, sunshine
- Divide the sea salt into 3 parts.
- Using a food processor pulse 1 part sea salt with an equal amount of fresh pine needles until the needles are crushed releasing a fragrant pine aroma and the salt is turning green. Empty the mix into a large bowl.
- Next pulse the 2nd part of sea salt with an equal part of dried pine needles and pulse until it releases a beautiful aroma of forest floor. Add it to the large bowl.
- Then pulse the last part of sea salt with and equal amount of Dulse until well blended and the aroma of the ocean is coming through. Add to the bowl.
- Next add the Epsom salts to the bowl. Add in the Himalayan salts. Blend it all together with your hands. Set the bowl out into the sunshine and infuse with sunlight.
- Fill the pouches full of salt mix, you want at least 1 cup full for a full bath tub.
- The fragrance is light and mild, if you want a stronger pine scent you can add a few drops of essential oil after its been in the sunshine. Mix it in well.
*NOTE: Never add undiluted essential oil directly into bath water; it sits on top of the water and can cause skin irritations. Mix it with a carrier oil like olive, coconut or sesame first then add to your bath.
Making these bath salts is a great group project
